The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center has partnered with Mural Arts to present Yearbook! This portrait project represents Pennsylvania in the 50-State Initiative. Coordinated by arts organization For Freedoms, the 50-State Initiative is a call for action and engagement in the lead-up to the midterm elections.

Three artists—Danna Singer, Shawn Theodore, and Daniel Traub—took portraits of young people. For the portraits, the youth designed their own props, costumes, and backdrops inspired by explorations of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms (1941) —freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear—in the 21st century.

With passion and creativity, these young people address issues like militarization, police violence, and racism, all while creating a collective picture of their own strength, spirit, and resilience.

With your help, these portraits will be exhibited in PPAC’s gallery from October 11 through December 15, 2018! They will also be placed on billboards throughout Philadelphia, making a statement that can’t be missed!

PPAC needs your support to bring the exhibition to life! Become a backer today and highlight the voice and vision of Philadelphia’s young people.
