Hi my name is Joseph and my favorite season is winter. I love the winter and I’m going to try to make it your favorite as well. Okay here are some reasons I like the winter.

First of all I love the winter because THERE ARE LOTS OF Competitions. My favorite type of competition is sled racing, we make a daring track in the snow and then we race on our snow boards. Next is the snowball toss we make snowballs and see who can throw them the farthest. Lastly we can have burying speed competitions, we find something to burry and see who can bury it faster.

I also like winter because you can have snow fights. My favorite is when you make a fort and a bunch of snowballs and throw the snowballs. My second favorite is the same thing except you don’t make a fort. My third and final favorite is snow army battles. Both players get one hour to make a snow army, snowballs and a fort. Then you throw the snowballs at the other army and the other fort. Once your done with those you can attack the other person.

Finally I like the winter just because it’s cold out. I like that it’s feezing and it kills my toes. We can have snow because of the cold. The lakes turn to ice and you can run on them. Finally my last reason I like the cold is because I get hot cocoa.

So you can see there are so many reasons I like the winter. I hope you like the winter best now that I brought up all those facts about winter. Oh well I’m done now, see you later!

  1. Hello Joseph,

Thank you for reminding me about all the wonderful reasons to like the winter. You did a really good job at pointing out the positive sides to that season and you also brought back so many great memories for me.

I was a huge fan of the fort and snowball wars too. Since I wore glasses, I was always a little afraid of getting pelted in the face. I used to pretend that my glasses gave me special vision to aim the snowballs better. It worked! I never missed hitting my target. My friends and I would play for hours in the snow not wanting the day to end. We were so cold that we were numb, but we didn’t care.

We also used to go the the local golf course and ride our sleds. That was a blast coming down the hill, but that walk up…yikes! I also remember the thermos filled with hot cocoa my Mom used to keep close by. There was just as much love in that thermos as there was hot cocoa. Those were great times. I guess I loved the winter more than I remembered. Thanks J D.

    1. Thanks Melissa! I am happy that you like my story. I wrote this about 6 years ago and looking back at my writing style and grammar usage makes me want to laugh. Despite the bad grammar I seem to have been good at talking about my favorite things. Being in 10th grade now, I’ve already forgotten doing a couple of the things I mentioned in this story. I’m curious how much of it I’ll remember by the time I have kids and they’re getting ready to play in the snow! I honestly wish I had written more. Maybe it would help me to remember some of the other fun things I used to do. Who knows besides younger me? Always happy to remind people of the fun times. Thank you for reading!

  2. Dear Joseph,

My youngest daughter is also in the 10th grade! I just want to say, your writing is beautiful, then and now. I hope to read more from you in the future.

    Melissa 🙂
