Veterans Day takes place every year on November 11. It’s one of the military holidays that we celebrate in the United States. Some people get this holiday confused with some other holidays related to our military, and others claim there’s no reason not to thank all military members and veterans on Armed Forces Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. I’ve seen debates on whether or not it’s appropriate to thank someone on the ‘wrong’ day. I say that every day is a good day to thank our current and former military men and women! However, I do think it’s a good idea to have a special day set aside specifically for different groups.
Current active duty military members are honored on Armed Forces Day in May every year. Memorial Day, also in May, is for remembering and honoring those who died while in service. Veterans Day is for all who have served in any branch of the military in the past. Since Veterans Day is just a few days away, I wanted to focus on ways to honor our veterans.
Some businesses extend their gratitude to veterans by offering free meals to veterans on Veterans Day. Some examples are: Applebee’s, Bonanza Steakhouse, Cattlemens Steakhouse, Chili’s, Friendly’s, Golden Corral, Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea House, and Tap House Grill. Many local restaurants have offers, so you might want to check places near you. Many other restaurants are offering free lunch or appetizers, or other special deals just for veterans and active military members.
Some places are offering other things to veterans. Meineke offers free oil changes on Veterans Day. National parks are offering free admission on Veterans Day. Acme Markets is offering 5% off a total order of $20 or more all week for active duty military members or veterans.
If you’re a veteran, you have deep appreciation from me and everyone else at Human Diaries. We would love to thank you for your service. We hope that you are able to participate in some of the offers of free products or services, or special deals, offered by many businesses. I also suggest frequenting business that provide free products and services to military and former military members so that they can continue to do so.
For everyone else, we suggest that you can thank our veterans through a donation to an organization that benefits them such as Veterans Support Organization, or by volunteering at a VA Hospital or other veterans’ organization. I saw a nice article that lists some other ways to thank veterans. I’m sure many of you have other ideas to help veterans, or know of other offers for veterans. Please share them for all of our readers who are veterans!
