This Saturday, September 26, 2015 is “Museum Day Live!” hosted by Smithsonian Magazine. It’s a once-a-year chance for two people in your household to visit a museum for free! You must get your ticket for your free admission before you go. It’s a quick and easy process that has been available since last month.
First, you need to go online and find out which museums are participating. The website says to check by state and zip code, but I just put in the state and clicked “Find Museums”, and it listed all of them. I checked, and there are more than 50 museums participating in Pennsylvania alone. About 1,300 in the country are expected to participate, so there’s a good possibility you can find something within a reasonable distance of wherever you are. Once you locate a museum you’d like to visit, you can download and print a ticket (or gain access to it on your phone) that is valid only for September 26, 2015. On that day, you present the ticket to get free admission for two people at one of the participating museums. This is a good opportunity to try out a new place to see how you like it, or go back to an old favorite. It’s a wonderful way to spend time with family, at little or no cost.
They also have a special event in March of 2016. Registration for that begins on January 4, 2016. This special event is to encourage everyone, but especially women and girls in underserved communities, to check out the nation’s “museums, cultural institutions, zoos, aquariums, parks and libraries” on Saturday, March 12, 2016.
What wonderful opportunities for everyone to enjoy fun and educational outings! For free!
