We have to remember that Memorial Day is really not about picnics, cookouts, and parties. It’s actually about remembering and honoring those who have given their lives while serving in the military. All of the focus online seems to be about having fun and celebrating. There’s not much information about observing the true meaning of this holiday. I would love to have people’s input about how they properly observe Memorial Day.

I haven’t actually seen it, but I’ve heard that wearing poppies is one way people observe the day and honor those who have died for our country. I found a few links, too:

    I also found this information:
Pay tribute to the U.S. men and women who died during military service.
Please observe a minute of silence at 3:00 p.m., local time.

I think that is a wonderful idea! I just wish I had known about this years ago.
