It was an amazing experience to say the least. Please join us in reading this interview and thanking Elijah for his service to our country, his devotion to his family, fun endeavors, and witty character.

Q- Hi Elijah, Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

A- Well my name is Elijah Davis as you know. I’m currently an independent film actor, a hip hop artist and an avid dinosaur, comic book and Anime lover. In my spare time, when I’m not doing that, I’m proudly serving in the United States Air Force Reserve. I have to say it’s a life I would never have expected to live back when I was just a nerdy kid growing up in East Falls Projects.

Q- Thank you for your service Elijah! Interesting combination of talents by the way; How did go from a “nerdy kid” to where you are now?

A- Life I guess, a lot of different things influenced me to do different things. Music was something that was always around while I was in my mom’s house. She was a young single parent so there was always a lot of music that was new and trendy but also a lot of music with emotion. Mary J Blidge, Stevie Wonder, The Doors, Nirvana and Seal. To this day Seal is still one of my favorite singers ever. Military was something I wanted to do to make my family proud and to better myself and also to prove something to myself and everyone that I could get something that was supposedly out of my reach. I’ve been in for a few years now and I was originally told I wasn’t what they were looking for. The Military was the first thing in my life that I wanted and had to make sacrifices for and really fought to get so I’m always exceptionally proud of that. Acting is the thing I’m most known for right now. That was really just me chasing a childhood dream. I didn’t tell anyone I was gonna pursue it, I didn’t post any dramatic Facebook statuses about it. It was a quiet move and I just took it and ran with it.

Q- Very festive and promising endeavors! Any auditioning opportunities? I know some people are terrified of the experience.

A- Yeah, plenty. My first role was as an extra in the film “Creed”. I didn’t have to audition for that one. I did a few that required auditioning. At this point I’m pretty relaxed whenever I go into one since auditioning was one of the first things I learned how to handle in acting class. I went to the Philadelphia Acting Studio for a while and learned from Bernard Glincosky and Tobi Gadisson. Mainly Bernard at first. At the moment I’m in the process of filming a script that I co-wrote with my partner Sandra Wade. Everything so far has been a blessing really.

Q- Good luck! Can’t wait to learn more. Huge part of playing a character is by connecting the role to yourself. What kind of character do you prefer playing as primary? To clarify, which characters’ personality types you are mostly comfortable playing?

A- Definitely a villain. I love being the bad guy in a story. When you’re playing a hero there are so many rules. Things you can’t do, things you can’t say. You can’t be too offensive or too comedic. When you’re the antagonist all bets are off. You can do comedy, you can have sinister moments. You can even have redeeming qualities that make the viewer wonder what made you go to the dark side. People start to relate to you at times wondering if they were in your situation would they do the same thing. The downside is, you don’t want to be the bad guy too much because then you get type cast. But I do enjoy being the bad guy. There are a few people in film and on TV that are villains that I absolutely idolize.

Q- Very interesting! I just thought about a few names as we talked about villains in a movie 🙂 let’s see if any of them made your list :). Tony Todd, Samuel Lee Jackson, Danny Trejo, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Keith David, Faran Tahir, Denzel Washington.

A- Denzel in Training Day definitely is one. Willem Dafoe, yeah. I’m a huge fan of Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York as Bill the Butcher. Heath Ledger in Batman of course is an instant classic. I love a villain that’s cool and can steal the show. My hands down favorite from this year is Walking Dead’s “Negan” hands down. I haven’t seen anyone as good as him in a while.

Q – What plans do you have for the future?

A- Just to keep doing everything I’m doing now at a larger scale hopefully. If the last few years taught me anything, it’s that life can take you anywhere at the drop of a dime. I can’t call it right now but if I can just progress in all my current ventures I’ll be satisfied. I’ll be content.

Q- Any humorous stories you would like to share?

A- Actually yeah, I’ve got a million. One good one is from when I was a little kid. I forget how old I was but my mom had clearly talked to me about the birds and the bees fairly recently. Anyone who knows my mom knows that she can make a mean lasagna dinner. So dinner time rolls around and it was her first time making her specialty lasagna for me. I took it in the other room ate it faster than you could blink then marched back to the kitchen where her and her friends were hanging out, stretched out my empty plate and with the most innocent and serious face said, “mom, can I have some more vagina?” Lol -you could here a pin drop in that room. She paused and looked down and said, “we have to correct this immediately.” I had never heard the word lasagna before and I had JUST been given the “birds and the bees” talk earlier that week at a pretty young age so easy to say I confused two words. Luckily I said it in the house and not out on the streets or child services probably would have came after me!

Q- If someone is about to describe you in three words, what would they be?

A- Honest, entertaining and driven.

Q – What do you think of Human Diaries?

A- I’m actually new to it but I have to say I’m enjoying what I’m seeing. With so many people so visibly frustrated and outraged on social media and everyday life I have to say it’s nice to have a place that reflects on the beautiful art of just living. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in society we forget to just live and see the beauty around us. Just live!
